Home Inspection and Property Maintenance Instructor
In my youth I helped my father build custom homes during the 1970's. I would apprentice with the various master tradesman that worked for him; masons, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, pipe fitters, etc. I would dig ditches, cut and nail wood framing, pull wire, cut solder and thread pipe, what ever an apprentice would do!
While attending the University of Memphis I did remodeling work and eventually became a licensed contractor in TN for the Building, Plumbing, Electrical and HVAC trades. I also hold several trade licenses in Mississippi. Because of my diverse background and experience, many consider me to be an excellent troubleshooter and I often receive calls from loan underwriters, appraisers, real estate agents, etc., when they have a question about houses.
While doing remodeling work in 1997, I was approached by a friend to inspect a house they were planning to buy. The word got around quickly that I was good at inspecting homes so I started doing Home Inspections more than remodeling.
After completing 250 paid Home Inspections, I joined ASHI, the American Society of Home Inspectors. In April 2002, I joined an AmeriSpec franchise and starting doing Home Inspections full time. I passed the AmeriSpec inspector candidate course exams without taking the required two week long Home Inspector classes. I passed the National home Inspector exam the first time and became a licensed Home Inspector in Mississippi, November 2002 (MHIB 0189). I later upgraded my license to MHIB 0189 NH in August 2007. Also in 2007, I became a licensed Home Inspector in Tennessee, TN 407. In 2008 I joined InterNACHI, InterNACHI® - Int'l Association of Certified Home Inspectors.
Since 1997, I have inspected over 10,000 homes and done 1,000's of other Home Inspection related ancillary inspections such as pool inspections, mold inspections, EIFS inspections, deck inspections, etc. I currently do home inspections for individuals, the Veterans Administration, Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Note: Under the Home Inspection rules, I cannot sell contracting services to clients.
